Teri Moren named AP National Coach of the Year, a first for Indiana women's basketball

After a historic season for the Indiana women's basketball team, Teri Moren has been named the 2023 Associated Press Coach of the Year.

Moren, who hails from Seymour, is the first coach in program history to win the award, according to a news release. This past season, IU had a school-record 28 wins and a first-place finish in the Big Ten Conference with a 16-2 record.

The title was the first regular season crown in 40 years. Indiana claimed wins over nine top 25 opponents during the season, five of which came against top 5 competition.

Moren's players also received a lot of recognition for the 2022-2023 season. Senior forward Mackenzie Holmes and graduate student guard Grace Berger were named All-Americans. Holmes was also named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Year. Six players earned all-conference honors.

Moren, who was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second time, is the sixth head coach in the conference to be named the AP Coach of the Year.

In January against Illinois, Moren became the program's all-time winningest coach with 189 career victories. Moren's current record is 200-93 (.682) in nine seasons.
