Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800 always said he'd be back – and now he very nearly is.

The new Terminator movie is approaching ever closer. So close, in fact, that director Tim Miller has teased the arrival of a first trailer in a matter of weeks.

"I like to spend every #TerminatorDay in a dark room thinking dark thoughts & our edit bay is the perfect place!" Miller wrote from the official Terminator: Dark Fate account.

"We're here putting the finishing touches on our FIRST TRAILER-we're just weeks away from releasing this f***er into the wild & we're very, very excited."

Terminator: Dark Fate will see Linda Hamilton and Schwarzenegger reprise their iconic roles of Sarah Connor and the T-800, marking Hamilton's return to the franchise after 25 years.

Tim will direct the movie with James Cameron returning to the franchise to serve as executive producer, and in an exclusive interview with Digital Spy earlier this year, Cameron spoke about what it's been like working with the original stars on another Terminator movie.

"Arnold, as always, is a dream to work with," Cameron told us.

"He wanted things explained, like, 'Why does the character do this? Why does the character do that?' I said, 'Here's why. Here's how it works. There are a couple of funny scenes – this is how you've got to play them so that it's not too much, and not too little.'

"He said, 'OK, I've got it. I've got it, I've got it'. And he went off to Budapest, and did it. So we have a shorthand. He and I have a shorthand."

Cameron previously revealed that the new film will be a sequel to the 1984 original and Terminator 2: Judgment Day and will ignore the intervening three movies, treating them as a "bad dream" or (less harshly) an "alternate timeline".

Mackenzie Davis, Gabriel Luna, Natalia Reyes and Diego Boneta will also feature in the movie.

Terminator: Dark Fate is expected to be released in cinemas on October 31 in the UK and November 1 in the US.
