All-terrain track wheelchairs available at 10 Georgia state parks and wildlife center

High-mobility all-terrain track wheelchairs are now available at ten Georgia state parks and historic sites, as well as one of their wildlife centers.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) partnered with the Aimee Copeland Foundation to provide the wheelchairs.

Copeland lost both hands, her right foot and her right leg when she contracted necrotizing fasciitis after a zip-lining accident in 2012 when she was 24. She has since worked to help people with physical challenges have improved access to the outdoors.

According to the DNR, the all-terrain track chairs allow those with mobility impairments to “reconnect with nature, explore nature trails, go fishing, hiking and attend adaptive hunts.”

The chairs are designed to easily navigate through mud, water, sand and snow.
