Terre Haute resident says phone, internet restored after 41 days

Sep. 26—After 41 days without service, Terre Haute resident Don Dodson finally had his home phone and internet service restored Monday afternoon.

Dodson, a retired business reporter for the Champaign, Illinois, News-Gazette, had gone without Frontier Communications telephone and internet service since Aug. 16.

He contacted the Tribune-Star in early September when he became frustrated with the company's lack of communication on the cause of the disruption and when service might be restored.

About a week later, Frontier spokesperson Hayley Hoefer stated in an email that "a third party caused damage to our lines that disrupted service for some of our customers. ... We recognize the critical importance of our connectivity, and our crews have been working diligently to resolve this issue."

According to Dodson, not having home phone or Internet for nearly six weeks "complicated life significantly, especially since I don't have a cell phone."

It meant daily trips to the Vigo County Public Library to check email and to send messages. Also, he couldn't easily reach family and friends and had to postpone plumbing work in his home.

Dodson said he is "thrilled" to have his landline and internet back. Neighbor Debra Israel had her landline restored Monday, and another neighbor also had service restored.

Dodson was aware of another customer who lives nearby still waiting for her services to be restored.
