Luis Morales, 30, of Rochester has been identified by Rochester police as the man shot to death Wednesday morning at 1233 N. Clinton Ave. RPD Capt. Frank Umbrino said the two other men shot in the incident, also city residents, are expected to survive. Lt. Greg Bello of the Rochester Police Department said officers were called to the address near Kohlman Street around 11:30 a.m. after several people reported shots fired. “This is terrible, this is horrific,” Bello said. “It’s 11:30 in the morning on a weekday. Kids are around, schools are open. There’s schools all along Clinton Avenue here, all along the block here. And there’s people shooting outside.”

Gates Police Chief Jim VanBrederode will retire Friday, he announced Wednesday morning. He became the department’s chief in 2013, but has been a police officer in Monroe County for 37 years. For the past five, he also served as the president of the Monroe County Chief’s Association. In 2017, he helped establish Gates to Recovery, a drop-in center for opioid addicts held weekly at the Gates Town Hall. Lt. Rob Long, a 17-year-member of the department, has been named the department’s next chief.

Soon, you’ll be able to have a beer or a glass of wine with your “Licorice Pizza.” A unanimous ruling made Wednesday by the New York State Liquor Authority Board means movie theaters in New York will be permitted to sell beer and wine for patrons to consume while watching films. The vote was in response to an appeal the National Association of Movie Theatre Owners, which argued its members should be extended the same privileges as venues other than restaurants (salons and art galleries, for instance) to sell beer and wine as an incidental part of their operations. Previously, theaters could sell beer and wine for consumption before or after shows in designated areas, or they had to be licensed as restaurants, a la the Alamo Drafthouse chain.

See you Friday.
