Territorial Brewing Company medals at 2022 World Beer Cup
Territorial Brewing Co. has added some hardware following the 2022 World Beer Cup.
The Springfield-based brewery received silver medal for "fruit beer," with its Berry, Berry, Quite Contrary during the bi-annual awards held May 5 in Milwaukee.
"It's still a little surreal," said Tim Davis, co-owner of Territorial Brewing Co. "We won a gold four years ago for BC Light, our light lager, so we've done it before, but it doesn't even feel real."
The Mitten Brewing Co. earned Michigan's only gold at the 2022 World Beer Cup. The Grand Rapids-based brewery with taprooms in Northport and Saugatuck won first place in the "English mild or bitter" category with its Triple Crown Brown, an English brown ale with chocolate and roasted malt character. It previously won second place in the 2016 World Beer Cup.
The Mitten also earned a silver medal for its Rye Baby, an imperial red IPA, in the "strong red ale" category. The awards

The World Beer Cup, which dubs itself "the Olympics of beer," is hosted by the Brewers Association in Milwaukee and takes place biennially (every other year); the 2020 competition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2018, 10 Michigan breweries took home awards, including four gold medals.
Medals are handed out to beers in more than 100 style categories, judged by more than 200 beer professionals.
