Tesla Posts Fifth Straight Quarterly Profit

For a while, Tesla was the talk of the auto industry, but there were serious doubts over if it could be consistently profitable. With the company reporting a fifth straight quarterly profit yesterday, though, those doubts are evaporating. As Automotive News reports, Tesla made $331 million in Q3 of 2020, delivering nearly 140,000 cars globally. Tesla says it's still aiming to hit its goal of delivering 500,000 cars this year.

Racing Point In Trouble Over Stroll Diagnosis

Racing Point Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll confirmed this week that he tested positive for the coronavirus after the Eifel Grand Prix, a race he missed as a result of his illness. That was news to us, and hilariously, the FIA. Motorsport.com reports that Racing Point is now in trouble, because positive COVID-19 tests are supposed to be reported to the FIA immediately. Stroll's personal doctor told him over the phone during the Eifel GP weekend that he likely didn't have COVID, but upon returning home, he and his father, team owner Lawrence Stroll, both tested positive. Stroll has recovered and has since posted a negative test, but Racing Point has Nico Hulkenberg standing by just in case.

Josef Newgarden Has a Tiny Chance of Winning the IndyCar Championship

After a dominant start to the season, Scott Dixon is favored to win the IndyCar championship, but a string of lackluster results luck means that his coronation after this weekend's race in St. Petersburg isn't a guarantee. IndyCar notes that Josef Newgarden, sitting 32 points behind Dixon, has a one in 19,872 chance to take the title. "You're saying there's a chance, and that's all we need," Newgarden said. St. Pete will be a street race this year, so the path to victory for Dixon won't be so simple, even if he is heavily favored. We'll be watching closely.
