Tesla recalls 15,000 Model X SUVs over power steering failure danger

In this article:

Tesla is recalling more than 15,000 cars because of a power steering issue that could increase the risk of a crash.

The recall order affects its Model X SUV in North America.

Tesla has found vulnerabilities in aluminium bolts, which could break and cause a complete power steering failure.

Areas with very cold climates that use road salts are thought to be most at risk, but Tesla said drivers can continue to use their vehicles before the issue gets addressed.

While no accidents or casualties have been reported, the electric car manufacturer decided to call back the 2016 models and offer to fix the fault.

Tesla issued a similar recall 2 years ago for 123,000 Model S vehicles worldwide that were built before April 2016.

On that occasion it called for replacing steering assist motor bolts.
