Tesla window issue leads to U.S. recall

STORY: Tesla’s windows appear to have a pinch problem.

Elon Musk’s electric car empire is recalling nearly 1.1 million U.S. vehicles because the automatic reversal system on some windows may not react correctly when detecting an obstruction.

In other words, a window that is closing may pinch a passenger before it retracts.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration -or NHTSA - said the vehicles failed to comply with the requirements of a federal motor vehicle safety standard on power windows.

Tesla told NHTSA it would perform an over-the-air software update of the automatic window reversal system. The recall covers some 2017-2022 Model 3s, Model Ys from 2020-2021, and Model S and Model X vehicles from 2021-2022.

The EV manufacturer said it was not aware of any warranty claims, field reports, crashes, injuries, or deaths related to the recall.
