Tessa Thompson lands next lead movie role

Creed III and Thor actor Tessa Thompson is already onto her next project and has been lined up to play what may considered one of the most dramatic roles in theatre.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thompson has been revealed to appear as Hedda Gabler in the upcoming film Hedda, which is to be written and directed by The Marvels' Nia DaCosta.
Hedda will be based on the play Hedda Gabler written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, which has seen runs on Broadway starring Weeds actress Mary-Louise Parker and in London'sWest End with His Dark Materials' Ruth Wilson.

DaCosta, who also penned the screenplay of 2021's Candyman, has worked with Thompson before on her 2018 feature directorial debut Little Woods.
Hedda will also see DaCosta and Thompson reunite with Gabrielle Nadig, who produced Little Woods and who will produce on this film too. Other producers alongside Nadig on Hedda include Plan B, DaCosta and Thompson, who is producing through her own Viva Maude label, which she launched in 2020. Kishori Rajan will executive produce for Viva Maude, and Michael Constable also joins the executive producer ranks.
As well as its stage outings, Hedda Gabler has appeared on screen in several different incarnations. In 1962 Ingrid Bergman starred as Hedda Gabler alongside Michael Redgrave as George Tesman in the BBC production, while the 1975 production directed by Trevor Nunn starred Patrick Stewart, Glenda Jackson and Gentleman Jack actor Timothy West.
Little else is known yet about this film version; however, with Marvel powerhouse Thompson and DaCosta joining forces again, it is sure to be a hit with fans.

This news comes after it was recently announced that she and (500) Days of Summer actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt were to be replaced in the sci-fi thriller Ash.
Thompson was to play Ash, now played by Alita: Battle Angel's Eiza González, who learns that her entire crew has been brutally murdered after awakening on a distant planet.
Hedda is yet to receive a release window. All four Thor movies, including Thor: Love and Thunder, are available to stream now on Disney+.
