BOYS SOCCER

Hudson 2, Twinsburg 1

Twinsburg took the lead just after halftime, but the Explorers rallied with two second-half goals to win the SL National Conference opener against the defending conference champions.

A tactical first half yielded only one shot on goal, but the Tigers took advantage of their best opportunities. Caden Casselman served a corner kick to the head of Tate Lowery to give the Tigers their lone goal in the 46th minute.

That proved to be Twinsburg's lone shot on goal, and Hudson's reply was quick.

In the 49th minute, Hudson scored on its own header from a corner kick. Sam Robledo served the ball from the near corner and Ben Mihalek headed it in.

The game-winner in the 58th minute was a thing of beauty. Hudson captain Mike Morgan got the ball near midfield and sprinted down the right sideline and fed the ball into Owen Durkee in the box. Durkee turned and blasted a shot into the roof of the net, giving Tiger goaltender Aiden Briggs no chance.

Highland 4, Tallmadge 1

The Hornets (2-1, 1-0) opened SL American Conference play with a convincing win over the Blue Devils (4-1-1, 0-1).

Max Gargano got Highland on the board 10:41 into the match by making good on a corner kick from Jacob Dobkowski. Jack Hedden scored 40 seconds later to give the Hornets the cushion they needed.

Alex Dobkowski scored right after halftime on an initial shot by Hedden to push the lead. Hedden was at it again nine minutes later, assisting Dominic Kolda.

Brett Goodell prevented the shutout when he scored on a pass from Jackson Lantz with just over 10 minutes left.
