Tewksbury Health Board Calls Emergency Meeting Over Omicron Surge

TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury's Board of Health is holding an emergency meeting Friday to discuss the recent rise in coronavirus cases, according to a newly-posted agenda.

The board will meet at 11 a.m. Friday remotely via Webex.

As of Monday morning, the discussion is the only agenda item. There are no proposed measures listed, but the agenda could change at the chair's discretion.

In the latest state town-by-town report, released Thursday, Tewksbury recorded nearly 700 cases in two weeks and a positive test rate of 16 percent.

More than 10 percent of town's total confirmed cases were in the last two weeks.

The town Health Department issued an advisory Friday with tips on protecting against the omicron variant. Among other steps, the department encouraged residents to:

  • Get vaccinated and boosted

  • Wear a mask

  • Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated spaces

  • Test to prevent spread to others
