Texans would have to be aware of TCU WR Quentin Johnston’s contest catch ability

No. 12 overall is an opportunity for the Houston Texans to give their new quarterback — taken at No. 2 overall — with a fellow rookie receiver to grow with.
Some mock drafts have the Texans going with USC’s Jordan Addison while others have Houston keeping TCU’s Quentin Johnston in state.
If the Texans were to go with Johnston, they would need to be aware of a weakness that detracts from his 6-2, 208-pound frame.
According to Michael Renner from Pro Football Focus, the biggest weakness to Johnston’s game is his ability to catch contested passes.
A 10%-plus drop rate and sub-50% contested catch rate for a bigger wide receiver is a massive red flag. There are not a lot of big receivers who don’t excel in those areas in the league.
At No. 12 overall, the Texans need a receiver who can develop into a Pro Bowler, All-Pro at best. If Johnston is having trouble with contested catches, it would curtail him from reaching a potential the Texans in order to make their passing game elite.
Houston may need to consider going with the best edge defender on the board if they can’t get the best receiver of the class at 12th overall.
