Texans QB Davis Mills explains why two-minute offense worked against the Panthers

The Houston Texans generated 193 yards total offense through against the Carolina Panthers amid the 24-9 loss on Thursday Night Football.
It didn’t appear the Texans moved the ball well, save for one drive at the end of the first half. Houston mounted a seven-play drive that churned 64 yards and culminated with a 1-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Davis Mills to receiver Anthony Miller.
The Texans ran no-huddle on that drive, and it helped their rookie quarterback get into a rhythm and be productive.
“I think we felt like we were, got in a really good rhythm once we were out there pushing the tempo and kind of spreading the ball around because, honestly, at the end of the drive, I felt like the defense was a little tired and we were able to attack them and find plays,” Mills said after the game.
The third-rounder from Stanford completed 19 passes on 28 attempts for 168 yards and a touchdown while taking four sacks. Mills finished with a 95.5 passer rating.
Mills says that he is comfortable with no-huddle and also calling plays conventionally.
Said Mills: “I mean, I wouldn’t say necessarily more comfortable than anything else, but I always feel like can I catch a really good rhythm once we’re up on the ball pushing the tempo.”
The Texans had success with no-huddle. The next 10 days will reveal if coach David Culley and offensive coordinator Tim Kelly agree on how to utilize it.
