Texas Animal Shelter 'Significantly Damaged' After Powerful Tornado

A powerful tornado barreled through Pasadena, Texas – in the Houston metro area – on Tuesday, January 24, scattering building debris and causing significant damage to a local animal shelter.

Images posted to Facebook by the City of Pasadena show debris around Pasadena Animal Shelter late Tuesday afternoon.

“Our Pasadena Animal Shelter sustained significant tornado damage today, including the loss of food and supplies for our pets,” they said in the post, and urged residents to consider monetary donations to help the recovery.

On Tuesday night, the shelter said the main building and adoption center were temporarily closed for all workers and volunteers.

“We understand and greatly appreciate your willingness to help, but we assure you that the animals we have left are being cared for while we work to get them out to fosters and other organizations,” they added.

“We will keep you posted with updates as we have them,” the shelter said. Credit: City of Pasadena via Storyful
