Texas basketball beat Tennessee in Rick Barnes’ return, now Horns headed to Knoxville
One game against Rick Barnes wasn’t enough, apparently. Texas is now headed to Knoxville next season to face Tennessee again in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
The game at Thompson-Boling Arena is scheduled for Jan. 28. Tipoff will be announced at a later date.
The Longhorns welcomed Barnes back to the Erwin Center last season in the Big 12/SEC Challenge but beat their former coach 52-51. It was a memorable day, to be sure, as Barnes made his first official trip back to the arena he called home for 17 seasons.

Barnes joined the Volunteers immediately after parting ways with the Horns after the 2014-15 season. How immediate? He went from the goodbye press conference at UT straight to the airport and got on a Tennessee plane headed into the SEC.
Barnes is 150-81 in seven seasons with the Vols. He’s 754-395 in 35 seasons overall.
Texas is 4-4 in the annual interconference series against the SEC. Big 12 teams are 48-41 against the SEC in this series, too.
As usual, five games are played in Big 12 venues while the other five are played in SEC territory. The ESPN family of networks will telecast all games.
