Texas Basketball: Rodney Terry agrees to five-year deal as head coach

Rodney Terry is staying on the Forty Acres. We hinted at the possible deal after giving more level-headed analysis on the situation than some in the college basketball media.
It appears Terry’s deal involves a five-year agreement in which he would make $15.3 million over that span. The contract is a win-win for Texas and its new head basketball coach.
Terry proved he can win in the NCAA Tournament, but many could contend that strategy didn’t work out for UConn and Kevin Ollie. Nevertheless, the $3 million per year agreement gives Texas wiggle room while giving its head coach reasonable financial assurances.
Rodney Terry’s path to become the Longhorns head coach is one of the better coaching underdog stories. The former UTEP and Fresno State head coach did not appear to be on track to become the leader of a big name basketball program. Despite all that, he did what he needed to do when called upon to take over the program’s fate.
Now Terry begins his search for impactful veteran players through the transfer portal.
