Texas DPS names 2 killed, 2 injured in head-on crash in Lamb County

Two people were killed and two were seriously injured in a head-on crash that state troopers say was caused by a driver attempting to pass a truck in a no-passing zone Thursday afternoon in Lamb County.

Sandra Sanchez Duran Gonzalez, 54 of Hart, and Herlinda Guerrero, 58 of Springlake, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash about 1:40 p.m. on U.S. 385 10.2 miles south of Springlake, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

They were passengers in a 2017 Cadillac LL driven by Teresa Ledesma Gonzalez, 52 of Springlake, who was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Investigators believe the Cadillac was travelling south on U.S. 385, approaching a hill, when a northbound 2015 Dodge Caravan driven by 61-year-old Rhonda Lynn Connor of Springlake attempted to pass a tractor-trailer in a no-passing zone. The vehicles crested the hill simultaneously and collided.

Connor was seriously injured and taken to University Medical Center.

Other factors contributing to the crash were not immediately clear as the investigation is ongoing.
