Texas Energy Day draws a crowd

Mar. 7—AUSTIN — On the fourth biennial Texas Energy Day, over 600 oil and natural gas industry people came to the Capitol Wednesday to meet legislators and tell their side of the story about supplying power for the state and nation.

State Reps. Brooks Landgraf and Tom Craddick say the event is an indispensable way of maintaining the industry's statewide support.

"Texas Energy Day is a big deal," said Landgraf, chairman of the House Environmental Regulation Committee. "It's an opportunity for legislators from across the state to learn exactly how the Texas miracle has been made possible and why the state needs to step up and defend the industry from federal regulators.

"Members from the major energy-producing regions of the state are given platforms to speak and companies engaged in production send employees and representatives from office to office to tell their stories," the Odessa Republican said. "This year I'm focusing on bringing back a portion of oil and gas production taxes to benefit regions like the Permian Basin so we can continue to make Texas a global force for good."

Craddick, R-Midland, a member of the House Energy Resources and Ways and Means committees, said the Permian Basin "and all Texas oil and gas basins provide the tools to fuel and operate our world.

"These areas continue to generate the resources we need to support all Texans and celebrating their accomplishments with my elected colleagues is a true honor," Craddick said. "Educating other communities on the importance of oil and gas in Texas is important to our success."

Texas Oil & Gas Association President Todd Staples reported Wednesday that more than 60 companies and organizations had partnered with TXOGA to stage the event, which had been held during each legislative session since 2017.

"Texas Energy Day is an opportunity to showcase the many ways this industry is enhancing lives, growing economies and protecting the environment," Staples said. "A robust oil and natural gas industry matters to all Texans whether you live near the oil patch or not.

"Industry's ongoing investment and commitment to innovation are delivering economic and energy security for all Texans, every American and many of our allies around the world."
