'A Texas football tradition.' Bijan Robinson wins Doak Walker award, Longhorn fans react
The best running back in the nation once again resides in Austin.
Texas running back Bijan Robinson was named the 2022 Doak Walker Award winner during ESPN's "Home Depot College Football Awards Show" on Thursday night. Robinson beat out Michigan's Blake Corum and Illinois' Chase Brown, the other two finalists, for the honor.
Robinson leads the nation in yards from scrimmage (1,580 rushing and 314 receiving) and is second in total touchdowns (20). The junior from Tucson, Arizona, joins joins Ricky Williams (1997, 1998), Cedric Benson (2004) and D'Onta Foreman (2016) as Longhorns who have won the Doak Walker Award, which was established in 1990. Texas and Wisconsin are the only schools to win the award five times.
“It’s a blessing to be a part of the conversation with the Doak Walker award,” Robinson said on ESPN moments after winning the award.
