‘Texas Hot’ chicken, slider restaurants new in Grapevine, coming to north Fort Worth

The company that started Velvet Taco is bringing its slider-burger “bars” to north Fort Worth and Grapevine.

Son of a Butcher Slider Bar, a nostalgia burger grill with small wagyu beef or chicken sandwiches, waffle fries, shakes and cocktails, will add its second Tarrant County location this year off Heritage Trace Parkway near Alliance Town Center.

The first local “SOB Sliders” opened this week at 480 Texas 114 West, Grapevine. It’s next door to former corporate cousin Velvet Taco.

The menu features six slider burgers from a classic to a brisket “burnt ends” burger with barbecue sauce and Gouda. There’s also a burger with peanut butter, bacon and blackberry jam.

But the most popular sliders might be the “Texas Hot” fried chicken with pimiento cheese, or another with Buffalo chicken and blue cheese.

The slider shops started in Plano, then added a Dallas location on Greenville Avenue.

SOB is owned by Dallas-based FB Society, which also operates Dallas-area concepts Whiskey Cake, Mexican Sugar, Haywire, Sixty Vines, Ida Claire and The Ranch in Las Colinas.

The company sold a majority stake in Velvet Taco years ago. It is now California-owned.

Velvet Taco recently added a restaurant in Grapevine at 440 Texas 114 West. The company also plans a north Fort Worth location at 2828 North Tarrant Parkway.

The Son of a Butcher location near Allliance Town Center is planned in a shopping center between a new P.F. Chang’s and Hopdoddy Burger Bar. The address is technically on Amador Drive.
