Vince Young wasn’t nearly as successful an NFL quarterback as many had hoped, but college football fans never forget their legends.

And Young is still beloved in his native Texas, well over a decade after his unforgettable 2006 Rose Bowl performance that brought the Longhorns a national championship.

And clearly Young loves Texas back, as he showed last Friday.

Mother Ginger with a great arm

Ballet Austin opened its 2018 performance of “The Nutcracker” this week, and for the debut night the role of Mother Ginger was played by Young.

The 35-year-old donned the massive red and white dress with a hoop skirt as well as a curly wig and full face of makeup for the role, and flashed the famous “hook ’em Horns” hand signal on the stage.

Mother Ginger is played by a different guest for each Ballet Austin performance; Austin Police chief Brian Manley also played Mother Ginger this week. She is usually played by a man in performances worldwide because typically children come out from under her giant dress and a taller person makes that easier.
