Shaw came to the school with Lutz when the former head coach took over the program in 2021 and had been interim head coach since Lutz announced his departure.

Shaw has 17 years of Division I experience, including stops at Texas Tech, Nebraska, Texas State and UTEP.

A San Antonio native, Shaw has been a part of the coaching staff that helped the Islanders to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

This year the Islanders won the Southland Conference regular season and tournament titles and claimed their first win in the NCAA Tournament, a 75-71 triumph over SE Missouri in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio, before falling to No. 1 seed Alabama in the first round, finishing the season 24-11.

The school has announced an introductory news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Dugan Wellness Center.
