Texas man dies in interstate accident

Sep. 2—Officials say a Texas man was killed in a one vehicle crash along I-69 earlier this week.

Daviess County Deputy Coroner Dean Guthrie reports that Joseph Latorre, 66, Austin, Texas, died in the crash Wednesday afternoon on I-69 near the mile 62 marker in Washington.

"He was a passenger in the vehicle," said Guthrie. "It rolled over several times and he was ejected."

Authorities found Joseph Latorre lying in the southbound lane of I-69 when they arrived on the scene. Guthrie says it appears he died of blunt force trauma.

Police say Latorre's wife Sean Marie Latorre, 67 was driving the Ford Econoline van when for some unknown reason it went off the road and began rolling over. She was taken to Daviess Community Hospital and treated for injuries sustained in the accident.

"They had been vacationing in Michigan and were on their way back to Texas," said Guthrie.

Indiana State Police accident reconstructionists have been to the scene to try and sort out the cause of the crash. Washington City Police are in charge of the investigation, which is ongoing.

Washington City Police were assisted by the Washington Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department, Indiana State Police, Daviess County Sheriff's Deputies, Daviess Community Hospital Ambulance Service, and Daviess County Coroner's Office.
