Texas Mom Has Reason to Smile After Getting Teeth Fixed Rather Than Replaced by Dentures

A young mother shed tears of joy when she discovered she would have her teeth fixed rather than getting dentures at Dr Kenny Wilstead’s dental clinic in Garland, Texas, on Monday, October 19.

Dr Wilstead told Storyful that 22-year-old Kelsey came into his dental office expecting to have all her teeth removed so she could get top dentures. Many of her teeth had decayed from drinking soda and smoking.

When the day finally came for Kelsey to undergo the procedure, Dr Wilstead said, “I just couldn’t do it … I’m not going to be the dentist who puts dentures in a 22-year-old girl’s mouth.”

Wilstead said he prefers to help his patient keep their teeth when possible. So he spent five hours removing all the decay on Kelsey’s top teeth and putting a cosmetic crown on each one.

Footage shared by Dr Wilstead shows him speaking to Kelsey about the personal struggles she has with her teeth, including how she has no pictures with her son due to feelings of shame. It also shows him breaking the news to Kelsey and her mom as well as a timelapse of the surgery.

“Kelsey was beyond grateful and very emotional,” he said.
