Texas opens up as the favorite against rival Oklahoma

Texas enters Red River Showdown week as a seven point favorite over rival Oklahoma.

It marks the first time since the 2009 season that Texas is favored in this matchup. ESPN’s Football Power Index gives the Longhorns a 68% chance to take down the Sooners.

Texas and Oklahoma both march into the game with identical 3-2 records on the season. The Longhorns are coming off a dominant 38-20 victory over West Virginia while the Sooners got taken to the woodshed against TCU.

A major storyline going into this ballgame is the health of each team’s starting quarterback.

Texas’ Quinn Ewers is targeting a return after missing the last three games with an SC sprain suffered in Week 2. Dillon Gabriel of Oklahoma was knocked out of the game with a head injury vs. TCU this past weekend. Both signal callers are questionable to play this weekend.

Oklahoma used an epic comeback to beat Texas in a 55-48 shootout a season ago. Texas’ last win in the rivalry came back in 2018.
