SAN MARCOS — National signing day was two months ago, but new Texas State coach G.J. Kinne and his staff continue to add to the 2023 recruiting class. The Bobcats have added two more transfers: SMU wide receiver Beau Corrales and Duke defensive lineman Christian Rorie.

Corrales, originally out of Georgetown High School, visited Texas State for junior day on March 26 before committing last Thursday and signing on Monday. Due to a medical waiver and open eligibility in 2020, he will play his seventh and final season at Texas State.

Corrales played his first five seasons at North Carolina before transferring to SMU last year. He caught 80 passes for 1,176 yards and 12 touchdowns in 28 games at North Carolina, while grabbing six catches for 71 yards in three games at SMU. The 6-foot-4, 211-pound receiver committed to Texas State in the summer of 2016, right before his senior season at Georgetown, but he flipped to Iowa and then flipped again, eventually signing with the Tar Heels.

Almost seven years later, he'll end up at the school he originally pledged to.

“I’m just grateful to have an opportunity to keep playing ball, and for things to be able to come full circle in this way is special to me,” Corrales said. “I’m excited to be closer to friends and family as this last chapter of college football comes to a close.”

He's the fourth receiver that the Bobcats have signed — all transfers: Cincinnati's Drew Donley, Marshall's Shadeed Ahmed and Incarnate Word's Kole Wilson.

Rorie committed Monday after also having visited San Marcos for junior day. The 6-foot-6, 302-pound defensive lineman played four years at Duke, compiling 18 tackles in 19 career games. He has two seasons left of eligibility and reportedly had offers from Marshall, Georgia Southern, Utah State and Arkansas State.

“This is actually one of my first offers, so I just wanted to come out and match the face with the voice,” Rorie said at junior day. “I wanted to see the environment because they brag so much about it. It definitely lives up to it. … I talk to (defensive line coach Mike O’Guin) a lot and I’ve been able to create a great relationship with him. Thankful for him and it was nice to meet him. He’s definitely the guy he said he was.”

Rorie is one of two unsigned transfer commits, along with Tyler Junior College defensive back Davon Martin. With Corrales, Texas State has signed 35 players for its 2023 class, 28 of which are four-year college or junior college transfers.

When asked how many more players he wants to sign, Kinne said it's “a fluid situation.”

Men’s basketball: Junior forward Nate Martin became the third player to enter the transfer portal since the season ended. Martin, listed at 6-foot-8, played in 80 games over the last three seasons. He averaged career highs with 8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game this season. Guards Brandon Davis and Davion Coleman also are in the portal.

Baseball: Texas State beat Arkansas State in two of their three games last weekend, with each game decided by one run: an 8-7 win in 10 innings Friday, a 5-4 loss on Saturday and a 7-6 win on Sunday. The Bobcats lost 10-9 to Texas A&M in College Station on Tuesday and will play a Sun Belt series at South Alabama this weekend.

Softball: The Bobcats won their first conference sweep of the season, beating Appalachian State three times in Boone, N.C. They won with scores of 4-3, 3-1 and 7-2. The Bobcats (23-14-1) host Southern Mississippi this weekend.
