SAN MARCOS — The Texas State football team held its 25th and final fall camp practice Saturday morning, two weeks before the season opener at Nevada on Sept. 3.

“You can start to see the fatigue set in,” Bobcats head coach Jake Spavital said. “You can start to see the back and forth, the ups and downs. Everybody is tired, everybody is mad at each other, everybody is sick of seeing each other type of moods going on around the building right now.

“Overall, I think we’re progressing as a team. I talked last time about going back and forth, offense and defense, and that still continues. Meaning both sides are responding at every practice, and I love to see that.”

The Bobcats came out of fall camp relatively healthy, though Rhode Island transfer guard Evan Lovell is considered day-to-day, Spavital said. Lovell was the first unit left guard during spring practice and at the beginning of fall camp.

“We’ve started to pull back on guys that have already made the depth chart,” Spavital said. “Guys that have started here for a long time and we know what they are capable of doing. So we’re getting a lot of evaluation on a lot of other kids right now.”

With the season on the horizon, the Bobcats will now go through a simulation of their daily schedule for game week called “mock week.”

“It’s just getting them acclimated to their class schedules and their daily routine throughout the course of the week so there’s no distractions on game week,” Spavital said. “Also, during mock week is when we start to solidify our depth charts and scout team. There will be some difficult conversations on Monday.”

Spavital said at the beginning of fall camp that he would name a starting quarterback a couple weeks ahead of the season.

Soccer: Texas State opened its season Thursday with a 1-0 win at home over St. Mary’s. The game was scoreless until the 85:40 mark when Zoe Junior gave the Bobcats the lead. Junior, a sophomore forward from Frisco, has already matched her goal total from last season, when she had one goal in 13 games, including four starts. The Bobcats will host Incarnate Word on Sunday.

Volleyball: Both Emily DeWalt, the Sun Belt player and setter of the year last season, and Janell Fitzgerald, the Sun Belt offensive player of the year, were picked to repeat those accolades in the Sun Belt's preseason poll. Texas State will open its season against Houston Baptist on Friday.

Adidas deal: Texas State announced that its contract with Adidas has been extended, meaning Adidas will continue to be the exclusive apparel line for Bobcats athletics. The deal is now in place until June 2025, with a two-year school option. Adidas has been the official outfitter for Texas State athletics since 2010.
