The Texas Tech community has been celebrating homecoming with a week full of events and traditions leading up to Saturday's football matchup against West Virginia and the naming of a homecoming king and queen.

On Thursday, members of the Saddle Tramps student spirit organization wrapped the statue of Will Rogers and Soapsuds in red tissue paper - a tradition ahead of games, but one that Saddle Tramps President Trent Bell was especially meaningful on homecoming week.

"It's been non-stop and exciting," he said Thursday evening as Saddle Tramps gathered to wrap the statue near the Broadway entrance leading up to Memorial Circle. "We've been getting ready all week and have been setting up for our bonfire on Friday. It's a lot of fun."

Prior to wrapping the statue, members of the Tech community gathered nearby in Memorial Circle for the annual Techsan Memorial, a somber event where the university remembers Red Raiders lost during the previous year.

On Friday evening, Tech student and spirit organizations marched down Broadway and into the campus for the homecoming parade leading up to a pep rally and bonfire in Urbanovsky Park.

Earlier Friday, the 2022 Texas Tech homecoming court was announced at the Rowdy Raider Rally, giving students a chance to vote online for the nominees through the day Friday.
