After rhe Big 12 Conference announced the men’s basketball schedule Friday, Texas Tech found out it christens its journey with a road contest against TCU on Dec. 31.

The news comes a day after the Red Raiders found out they would be without the services of Utah Valley transfer center Fardaws Aimaq, who suffered a foot injury during a workout earlier in the week. Aimaq is expected, “to make a full recovery and return for the season,” per a Texas Tech news release. There was no timetable for how long he will be out of practice, via the same release.

It marks the final season of the home-and-away series between each of the current 10 conference programs before the addition of four new teams in BYU, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston. Following their road trek to TCU, the Red Raiders are slated to host Kansas on Jan. 3 to begin the home slate inside United Supermarkets Arena. The tip time for the opener in Fort Worth is yet to be determined, while the conference announced an 8 p.m. tip for KU-Tech in Lubbock with the game set to be broadcasted on ESPN or ESPN2.

Game times for previously announced non-conference games are also available, including an 8 p.m. Nov. 7 tipoff for the season opener against Northwestern State and 7 p.m. tips for contests against Louisiana Tech and Georgetown at United Supermarkets Arena.

"We're excited about this team," Texas Tech coach Mark Adams said in a media release. "We have high expectations. Our fanbase expects success. West Texas fans want guys who are going to play hard and together. They want grit and represent West Texas the right way. It's a tall order and we've got our work cut out for us. Our guys have embraced it though. I think we'll be able to compete with anyone in the country."

The Big 12 double round-robin format is set to conclude March 4 before teams compete in the Big 12 Tournament to be held March 8-11 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.
