Texas Tech men's basketball schedule nearing completion
Much of Texas Tech's non-conference men's basketball schedule for the upcoming season is in place with Tech having agreements for eight home games before Big 12 play begins.
Tech supplied contracts for seven of those games to the Avalanche-Journal this week in response to an open-records request. The Red Raiders are scheduled to host Northwestern State, Texas Southern, Louisiana Tech and Georgetown in November, the latter as part of the annual Big East-Big 12 battle. Louisiana Tech head coach Talvin Hester was a Red Raiders assistant for Mark Adams last season.

Which non-Big 12 teams will Texas Tech men's basketball host in December?
The Red Raiders are scheduled to host Nicholls State, Eastern Washington, Houston Baptist and South Carolina State in December. Tech has agreed to at least seven of the non-conference teams coming to United Supermarkets Arena game guarantees ranging from $90,000 to $115,000.
The Avalanche-Journal reported some of the games previously based on earlier open-records requests.
A Tech athletics spokesman said Tuesday the Tech staff is still working to finalize the schedule.
How many games is Texas Tech men's basketball allowed to play in the regular season?
NCAA rules allow Division I men’s teams to play up to 28 regular-season games and participate in one multi-team event that includes up to three games; 29 regular-season games and a multi-team event that includes up to two games; or 29 regular-season games when the team does not participate in a multi-team event.

The Red Raiders will play three games from Nov. 21-23 at the Maui Invitational, which has an eight-team bracket with championship and consolation sides. They also are scheduled to visit LSU in the annual Big 12/SEC Challenge.
With the games documented, the Red Raiders have the 18-game Big 12 schedule, agreements for nine non-conference games and the tournament with three games.
