In conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Texas Tech Physicians Geriatric Oncology is providing free memory screenings in observance of National Memory Screening Day at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.

"Early detection of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) may afford a person the opportunity to take advantage of treatments that may slow the changes in memory and thinking skills or participate in a clinical trial," a news release says. "The memory screening is a series of questions and/or tasks that takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and can indicate if someone may benefit from a comprehensive medical evaluation."

The event will begin with an opening ceremony at 8 a.m., with remarks from Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson and TTUHSC School of Medicine Regional Dean Richard Jordan, M.D.

The free screenings will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Texas Tech Physicians First Floor lobby, located at 1400 South Coulter in Amarillo.

The screenings are not used to diagnose any particular illness and does not replace consultation with a physician or other clinician.
