Texas Tech quarterback Maverick McIvor has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to multiple media reports Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022.

McIvor, a 2019 graduate of San Angelo Central High School, hasn't found any traction yet at the college level.

He was injured during a scrimmage before his freshman season — which required foot surgery — and he never saw the field for the Red Raiders.

A player entering their name in the transfer portal does not necessarily mean they will leave, and a player is free to withdraw their name. However, schools are not required to keep a player on scholarship once they enter the portal.

Players are immediately eligible at their new school upon the first time they transfer.

McIvor was one of the most highly recruited players in Central history with offers from schools like USC, Ole Miss, Arizona State, Boise State, Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina and Washington State.

All five major conferences — the Big 12, Pac-12, SEC, Big Ten and ACC — had at least one school offer him a scholarship.

As a junior in 2017, McIvor threw for 3,372 yards, which ranks second in school history, and a school-record 43 touchdowns. He also rushed for 864 yards and eight TDs.

Central finished 11-1 and won a fifth straight district title.

McIvor's senior season ended abruptly, however, when he suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 in Del Rio.

McIvor moved to San Angelo before his sophomore year from Fort Davis, where he previously played six-man football. He was a key receiver for the Bobcats' 2016 team that went 12-1 and lost to Allen in the regional semifinals.

McIvor still has two years of eligibility remaining at the college level.
