Texas Tech’s Syncere Massey, Trey Cleveland enter names into NCAA transfer portal
The Texas Tech football team will be without the services of two players who played on offense and defense.
Wide receiver Trey Cleveland and defensive lineman Syncere Massey both announced Thursday on Twitter that they entered their names into the NCAA transfer portal.
Cleveland posted on Twitter that he would enter the portal as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility remaining. He caught 22 passes for 344 yards and no touchdowns in 12 games played last season for the Red Raiders, who won the TaxAct Texas Bowl. As a sophomore, Cleveland appeared in all 13 games, nabbing 11 passes for 141 yards and one touchdown, as part of the two-deep rotation at the outside receiver position and also contributed special teams units caught 11 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown overall.
Massey, a 6-5foot-5, 330-pound freshman, committed to play for Texas Tech with the hiring of Joey McGuire — who had a previous relationship with the former Cedar Hill standout. In high school, Massey was ranked the No. 74 prospect in the state by Rivals. He garnered first-team all-District 11-6A honors in 2020, and was credited with 49 tackles and 10 sacks while aiding Cedar Hill to a state runner-up finish in Class 6A Division II.
