Weston Wright declares early

Texas Tech offensive guard Weston Wright, a 42-game starter in his career, on Wednesday announced he will declare for the NFL draft. Wright, in an announcement on social media, said he will play with the Red Raiders in their bowl game and then begin pro preparations.

Wright's 42 career starts ranks second among active Tech players behind nose tackle Jaylon Hutchings, who's started 45 games.

Wright is one of 23 Tech seniors with the option to return in 2023 on the Covid-bonus year. Safeties Dadrion Taylor-Demerson and Reggie Pearson are expected to exercise that option.

Running back SaRodorick Thompson is expected to forego the option year and pursue his pro opportunities, Tech coach Joey McGuire said Saturday.
