Texas Tribune to host a conversation discussing the future of public education in Texas

Oct. 17—AUSTIN — The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan statewide media organization, will host a conversation, "Public Education and the Special Session," Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. in downtown Austin and online at texastribune.org.

The conversation will be held with local school leaders, advocates and policy experts during the special session on what could come out of the session and how legislation could change things for students, parents, teachers and schools across the state.

The event will be held tomorrow in the Tribune's Studio 919, located at 919 Congress Ave., Sixth Floor, Austin, Texas, 78701. Parking will not be provided; street and garage parking as well as ride-sharing are

recommended.

The "Public Education and the Special Session" event includes these confirmed speakers:

—Corey A. DeAngelis, senior fellow at the American Federation for Children

—Norma V. Cantú, professor of education and professor of law at UT-Austin College of

Education

—John Emerich, superintendent of Crockett Independent School District

—The moderator for this event is Becky Fogel, education reporter at KUT Radio, Austin's NPR Station.

The discussion will be followed by a Q&A. The event will also be live-streamed online and available to watch on demand afterward at texastribune.org/events.
