The Texas Tribune to host event discussing public education and the special session Wednesday

Oct. 31—AUSTIN — The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan statewide media organization, will host a conversation event, "Public Education: Beyond the Special Session," tomorrow, Nov. 1, at 9 a.m. in downtown Austin and online at texastribune.org. The event will go through what is not included in the special session, including teacher recruitment and retention, funding formulas and improving student performance; what that likely means for Texas schools and families; and how we can address these pressing challenges to public education going forward.

RSVP to attend this free event.

The event will be held in the Tribune's Studio 919, located at 919 Congress Ave., Sixth Floor, Austin, Texas, 78701. Parking will not be provided; street and garage parking as well as ride-sharing are recommended.

The "Public Education: Beyond the Special Session" event includes these confirmed speakers:

— Michelle Rinehart, superintendent of Alpine ISD

— Bridget Worley, chief state impact officer of Commit Partnership

— Josh Sanderson, deputy executive director of The Equity Center

The moderator for this event is Brian Lopez, Texas Tribune public education reporter.

The discussion will be followed by a Q&A. The event will also be live-streamed online and available to watch on demand afterward at texastribune.org/events.
