The Thai monks delivering meals on wheels

These Thai monks are feeding people in need

using a golf cart and a trailer loaded with groceries

Location: Bangkok, Thailand

The truck hits the streets every Sunday

bringing produce to hundreds of people living in remote areas

Monk Pornchai Kabmalee came up with the idea

(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) MONK PORNCHAI KABMALEE, SAYING:"Every time we go out, we donate at least two tons of fresh vegetables, as well as rice, dry food, water, milk, snacks for kids and even dish soap. I can say our truck basically has everything that a supermarket has."

Each week's donations cost at least 50,000 baht ($1,500)

a cost initially covered out of the monks' own pockets

Now, other people are also making donations

(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) VILLAGER, MONTRI BOONTHEAB, SAYING:"This food will make me feel less hungry for a couple of days. I have been unemployed for a year and I don't see my future yet."
