Thai police seize 'money laundering' cats

Police in Thailand conducting a raid on a suspected narcotics trafficking ring have seized a house, a car...

... and six cats that they believe were being used for money laundering purposes.

The kitties are all expensive pedigree breeds worth thousands of dollars. Specifically, five of them are of a breed called a Scottish Fold. The sixth cat is called a Bengal. Now they're being held by the police, who plan to sell them at auction.

The house that was raided belonged to a woman who has been wanted by authorities for months, and is said to have fled the property before police arrived.

The plan to auction off the cats has also stirred some debate in Thailand. A number of animal welfare groups have asked that the cats be given to a shelter instead, which can help them find loving homes.
