This new Thai spot opens in Warner Robins. It’s the fourth restaurant for this family

A new Thai restaurant that just opened in Warner Robins lives up to its name.

ZAAP Thai Street Food at 670 Lake Joy Road, Suite 400, in the Kathleen community is in its soft opening.

Zaap in Thai means delicious or spicy, and on a recent, unannounced visit, everything I ordered was, in fact, delicious.

I also asked two customers, sisters who are half-Thai, to share their thoughts.

A review

For starters, I chose the chicken egg roll, which is described on the menu as chicken and mixed veggies wrapped and deep fried served with sweet and sour sauce.

The presentation was faultless. Served on a blue plate with garnishments, the three crispy egg rolls were filled with finely cut chicken and veggies and cut in such a way that made them easy to dip.

For my entree, I tried the Pad Thai with jumbo shrimp, which the menu describes as stir-fried rice noodles with ZAAP’s tamarind sauce, bean sprouts, red onion, green onion, tofu, eggs and peanuts. I asked for mild seasoning.

Everything was just mixed together perfectly to create a sweet flavor. Served in a copper dish, the entree stayed warm throughout the meal.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting and relaxing and the service was excellent.

A.J. Hill and Janell Holloway, sisters from Warner Robins, also stopped in on the second day the restaurant was open.

“We just wanted to try something new,” Hill said. “We’re actually half-Thai and we like to try all the Thai food.”

Hill tried the Pad Ma Ma with no meat, which is described on the menu as stir-fried ramen noodles with Thai herb, egg and veggies in a chili garlic sauce. Meat options for this dish include chicken, jumbo shrimp and seafood.

“I think it was pretty authentic,” Hill said. “It was pretty good.”

Holloway also said she enjoyed her dish. She tried the Bamee Moo Daeng (dry), which is described on the menu as egg noodle with BBQ pork, fish cake, meatball flavored with fried garlic oil and veggies.

“The meat was tender,” Holloway said. “The mixes, the combination, made the flavor pop.”

The sisters also enjoyed their Boba milk teas. Holloway tried the Tiger milk tea, while Hill tried both the iced Thai tea and the Thai coffee.

The restaurant also serves beer, wine, sake, Coca-Cola products, tea, including green and jasmine served hot, and refreshing drinks such as butterfly pea lemonade and red, green, peach and lime sodas. Desserts include Thai roti and snow ice with Sala-flavor syrup.

Jackie and Cody Tonsiri met at Kai Thai in Milledgeville. She was already working there when he started traveling back and forth from Warner Robins to help out.

On my recent visit, Jackie was my server, and her husband was in the back cooking. She was very attentive. I asked her about the owners.

“They’re laid back,” she said. “They’re very giving. They take care of their employees.”

Next time

During the break between lunch and dinner when the restaurant was closed, I was allowed to linger. I watched the restaurant staff finish up their duties and then relax over lunch.

Stopping by her table to say goodbye to Jackie, I discovered what I would order on my next visit: the Tom Yum Noodle Soup that she was enjoying.

The soup is described this way on the menu, “The flavors are a combination of noodles with Thai flavors served with ground pork, fish cake, boiled egg, meatball and veggies.”

It looked amazing.
