Thai taxi-garage converted into vegetable garden

This taxi fleet was converted into a vegetable garden

to support out-of-work drivers

Location: Bangkok, Thailand

The Ratchapruek Taxi Cooperative has taken hundreds of cars off the road

after months of lockdown left many drivers with insufficient income

Workers built miniature gardens on the roofs of idle cabs

and planted a variety of crops, including chillies, cucumbers and courgettes

(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) RATCHAPRUEK TAXI COOPERATIVE STAFF, KAMOLPORN BOONNITIYONG, SAYING: "The point of this project is so that employees have something to do, to reduce stress. To a certain extent, it has helped with reducing our stress but it isn't really the answer to the situation right now. Even though the drivers and staff are able to harvest the vegetables for food, it's just part of solving the problem. I think the government should also step in to help us too."
