Thais give digital spin to 'floating basket' festival
STORY: Thailand is innovating to preserve the ancient Loy Krathong festival
Location: Bangkok, Thailand
Typically, festivities involve sending flower baskets ('krathongs') down waterways
to make wishes and pay their respects to water spirits
This year, participants are sending virtual rafts floating down digital rivers
to reduce pollution as debris drifts into Thailand's waterways

"My daughter is starting to grow up, she already understands environmental conservation. My son is still young, but he will still feel the difference between last year when he floated the actual krathong. Maybe this year, he will understand the importance of conservation after digitally floating the krathong."
