‘Thank you for changing history’: Celebrities respond to death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Celebrities reacted with an outpouring of grief and admiration for Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday night following the death of the trailblazing liberal lion of the Supreme Court.

“Thank you for changing history,” tweeted pop star Mariah Carey. “We will never let it be undone. RIP RBG.”

Ginsburg, the Brooklyn-raised legal titan known to many as “The Notorious R.B.G.,” — a reference to Biggie Smalls that she embraced — died of cancer at age 87. The news was immediately followed with an avalanche of social media messages, many encouraging people to vote in November.

Seth McFarlane, the brains behind “Family Guy,” said in a post that Ginsburg will “be missed more than we can yet imagine.”

A potentially earth-shaking political battle over President Trump’s appoint of a replacement for Ginsburg looms with Election Day just seven weeks away. Some stars seized on the moment.

“Her rest is earned,” tweeted actress Kerry Washington. “It is our turn to fight.”

Comedian Samantha Bee said in a Tweet that “the f------ fight of our lives” is upon us. And actor John Cusack echoed the militant language.

“If you didn’t recognize the existential stakes of this election now - your listening to the music on deck of titanic,” Cusack wrote on Twitter. “Vote out gop.”

But others stepped past politics and instead focused on Ginsburg’s inspirational life and work.

Actress Alyssa Milano wrote on social media that she admired the way Ginsburg “moved through this world with such strength and grace and conviction.”

Another Brooklyn-born legend, Barbra Streisand, registered her grief too.

“Just heard the worst news... so sad!” Streisand said on Twitter. “Ruth Bader Ginsburg you will live in history forever.”
