‘Thankful that they are safe.’ Former Central Kentucky mayor’s home destroyed in a fire

The home of former Sadieville Mayor Carl Jones was destroyed in a house fire Tuesday night, according to the city of Sadieville.

The fire happened on Main Street in Sadieville, according to the Scott County Fire Department. Details about what caused the fire were unavailable Wednesday morning, but the city confirmed it happened at Jones’ house and everyone made it out safely.

“As a community, we are saddened for the Jones family who lost their home tonight to a structure fire. We are so very thankful that they are safe,” the city said in a Facebook post.

Photos of the scene posted to Facebook showed that little of the home was left standing once firefighters had extinguished the flames.

How to help family of former Sadieville mayor

The family will need food, clothes and a hotel room in the coming days while things get sorted out, family member Sarah Jones said in a Facebook post. She has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the family with the goal of collecting $10,000.

Over $1,000 had been donated as of 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The fire happened around 7:30 p.m. while Carl Jones was at a bible study class at church and his wife, Darlene Jones, was at work, Sarah Jones wrote on the GoFundMe page. All proceeds donated to the GoFundMe will go directly to the Jones family.

“Let’s help them not worry about the expenses of things as they grieve having their memories ripped from them tonight,” Sarah Jones wrote in the GoFundMe.

People can also donate through Sarah Jones’ Venmo: Sarah158907; and PayPal: s.jones070612@gmail.com. Donations made to both accounts on Wednesday will be directly forwarded to the family.

The city also said people can call the Country Inn hotel in Georgetown and pay for a night under Carl Jones’ name.
