Our Thanksgiving issue will be chock full of great stories, the giant crossword and more

Just how big is this year's Thanksgiving issue of The Daily Times? Big enough and packed with great stories and more that we're getting out a day early.

That's right, the big Thanksgiving issue will hit newsstands and subscribers' homes on Wednesday, the day before the big turkey day. As usual, it'll be chock full of ads from local retailers, allowing you to get started on your Christmas shopping.

On Thursday, the Daily Times will be available only via our E-Edition, which will have more stories, plus our daily puzzles and comics.

Wednesday's big edition will be packed with great stories and more, and here's some of what you can look forward to in that issue and on our website, DelmarvaNow.com.

On the political beat, Maryland's big U.S. Senate race is definitely starting to heat up, and reporter Dwight Weingarten has it covered. For the Thanksgiving issue, he'll have profiles of the top two Democrats and the leading Republican in the big race to replace retiring Sen. Ben Cardin.

If environmental news is what you're looking for, reporter Kristian Jaime will have a story on how former state Sen. Paul Pinsky is now leading the charge as the Maryland Energy Administration is developing the state's green future, especially for underserved communities.

And this has been a truly great fall sports season, with the Pocomoke field hockey squad almost reaching an amazing three-peat and Stephen Decatur charging toward a state title in football. As great as I know those stories will be, I also know many people look forward at least as much to the giant crossword puzzle, and this year's won't disappoint. It will fill two whole newspaper pages and be an epic challenge for even the most skilled puzzlers.

It actually comes in a bonus section of the Thanksgiving paper, which will include:

  • A guide to sports viewing for the holiday weekend.

  • Two full pages of recipes, plus the numbers for food-related hotlines, should you overcook the sweet potatoes.

  • The Giant Thanksgiving Crossword.

  • Kids coloring and games, as well as other games and puzzles for adults.

  • The folks at Reviewed, part of the USA TODAY Network, will provide their ratings for hot items this holiday.

  • More stories about how Americans are giving thanks this holiday, as well as a list of important dates to remember through the season.

And yes, there's even more. On the features page, we'll have a roundup of the best Christmas parades coming to the Lower Shore this season, starting early with Pocomoke's grand celebration on Nov. 27. Also in features, for those who don't want to cook but still want to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast with friends and family, we'll have an updated list of the restaurants that are open and offering epic meals on the big turkey day.

There's more, of course, but we don't want to spoil it all. In short, we hope you'll enjoy the big Thanksgiving issue, and we wish a happy Thanksgiving to all.
