Thanos' Creator Revealed the One Thing He'll 'Never Forgive' About 'Avengers: Endgame'
Thanos creator Jim Starlin has revealed that there's one aspect of Avengers: Endgame that he'll "never forgive."
Speaking to Digital Spy at San Diego Comic-Con, Starlin spoke about how he actually liked Endgame more than Infinity War. However, one particular aspect of Thanos in 2014 rankled him: his weapon.
"The one thing they did, and I will never forgive the Russos and [writers] Markus and McFeely, was they brought that weapon he had in, which is inspired from the Thanos helicopter which most everybody had almost forgot all about," he explained.
"Originally, the ThanosCopter was created by Larry Lieber for some kids' books called Spidey Super Stories. Thanos was running around robbing banks with the name Thanos written on the side of his copter which always struck me as a little strange all by itself.
"But I tried to ignore it and I thought people had forgot about it, but they stuck it in the movie. I had a couple of writers credit me with creating it and I'm like, 'No, it wasn't me'."
Still, at least it's only one thing about Endgame that Starlin doesn't particularly like.
Talking about his character's journey on screen, Starlin reflected that before Infinity War, he was just hopeful that it wouldn't be like Daredevil (the movie, not the TV show).
"I came in there thinking that as long as it wasn't bad, I was coming out a winner on it. As long as it wasn't the Daredevil movie, as long as it wasn't a lot of other terrible movies that have been made on comic book characters," he said.
Starlin added that co-director Joe Russo did worry him a little bit as he emailed him saying that they had cut the backstory for Thanos out of the movie.
"I had just made the mistake of watching Justice League about a week before and all I could think of when he told me this was, 'That could easily come out to be like the Justice League movie'," he continued.
"I got inside and, like, two minutes, the Hulk didn't have to get his ass beat before I could say, 'Forget it Jim, this is gonna work out just fine'."
