The best ships in Genshin Impact to make you swoon on Valentine's Day 2023

What better way to celebrate this day of love and affection than to list down our favourite ships?

While most love Genshin Impact for the gameplay or the story, others love it when the game's colorful cast of characters interact and plant the seeds for a blossoming romance to swoon over!

This is for that section of the community. In celebration of Valentine's Day, here are our picks for the best Genshin Impact ships!

Jean and Diluc

The Jean and Diluc ship was one of the earliest to set sail in Genshin Impact, as both featured prominently and interacted quite often during the Mondstadt Archon Quests. Theirs is a classic romance trope, of two people who want to get closer, but can't do so because of duties and responsibilities they have to prioritize.

The bond between Jean and Diluc seems fated too. In Mondstadt's early history, it was members of the Gunnhildr and Ragnvindr clans that helped Venti rebel against Decarabian and later overthrow the corrupt Aristocracy.

As descendants of those clans, Jean and Diluc also ended up helping Venti restore Dvalin. Maybe it's fated that they end up together too. Perhaps when Mondstadt is truly free from all threats that they can finally set duty aside and let their budding romance bloom?

Ningguang and Beidou

Two of the most powerful women in Liyue also form the city's premier power couple.

Ningguang and Beidou have a close relationship and maintain a friendly rivalry, even if their personalities and positions in Liyue society would normally be opposed to one another.

Since Beidou is a pirate, it is Ningguang's task as one of the Liyue Qixing to reel the former in. However, what actually happens is that Ningguang gets Beidou to do errands for her in exchange for ignoring her illegal activities.

The pirate captain gets special privileges out of that deal too, such as unlimited access to the Jade Chamber so they can play chess, or so Beidou says.

We are treated to more bits and pieces on Ningguang and Beidou's relationship throughout various events. For example, in "Of Drink A-Dreaming", Ningguang invited Beidou to an impromptu vacation and ended up in the Angel's Share bar in Mondstadt, where the Traveler served them drinks while they teased each other.

Of course, what really fuelled the fire for this ship was the animated cutscene for last year's Lantern Rite, where Beidou complimented Ningguang's new dress and the latter replied with "Only a true treasure catches the eye of Captain Beidou. It seems I've struck gold with this one.”

Also, Beidou's birthday is on 14 February, so the Captain and the Tianquan have two things to celebrate on Valentine's.

Xingqiu and Chongyun

Fans of the Xingqiu and Chongyun ship get to eat a lot, as the pairing enjoys tons of interactions in various events.

The two have a very close friendship, with Xingqiu endlessly teasing and pulling pranks on the hapless Chongyun, who still considers him a true friend.

Chongyun's voiceover lines state his admiration for Xingqiu and his devotion to chivalry and passion for reading. Of course, he is well aware of his friend's mean side, seeing as he's always the victim of his pranks.

On the other hand, Xingqiu's voiceover lines state that he and Chongyun understand each other very well and that they have been friends for a long time.

The Flavors of the World cutscene from version 2.1 even shows Xingqiu and Chongyun playing together as kids alongside their bigger friend group that also includes Xiangling, Hu Tao, and Xinyan (Yun Jin is also part of the group but had yet to be released at the time).

But while Xingqiu and Chongyun's relationship looks to be your typical buddy-buddy friendship, the former is known to have shown clear signs of affection.

In Chongyun's Hangout Quest, he told the Traveler that Xingqiu gave him many clues, one of which involves a popular dating location where "two close friends" should go.

During the Moonchase Festival, Xingqiu invited Chongyun to a Feiyun Commerce Guild warehouse, asking him to read a book out loud for him. The book is a romance novel called "Young and Hopelessly Smitten".

Those are some very big hints that point towards Xingqiu's affection for Chongyun. But knowing the two, those clues either just fly over Chongyun's head or are dismissed as another prank by his friend.

Eula and Amber

The pairing of Eula and Amber is one of the most popular and wholesome in the game, catapulting to popularity when Eula's character demo ended with her inviting Amber to dance.

With that said, their relationship runs much deeper than that short (yet sweet!) interaction.

When looking at their character stories, you will find that Eula and Amber have been friends for a very long time.

In Eula's vision story, it was revealed that she came under the tutelage of "a long-forgotten old outrider", which many believe to be Amber's grandfather. We can then assume that connection is where Eula and Amber's friendship began.

Amber ended up being the only person in Mondstadt that Eula fully trusts, as the former did not let the latter's family history get in the way of their friendship.

If anything, Amber has long championed Eula's cause and helped the citizens of Mondstadt that Eula was far removed from the cruel Lawrence clan.

Eula's character stories tell of how Amber helped Eula in her debut with the Knights of Favonius and even announced her good friend's deeds to anyone who would listen. Amber's actions helped to improve Eula's standing with the populace, who were no longer as aggressive towards her as before.

We can see how much Eula treasures Amber in the "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms" event, where the former was noticeably very protective of the latter as they were stranded in Dragonspine.

When the party was hit by an avalanche, Eula was quick to pull Amber away from danger in a hug. Here is a neat compilation of all the Eula and Amber moments from that event, enjoy!

Traveler and Ayaka

Let's be honest, the Traveler gets shipped with almost everyone in the game by virtue of being the main character, so they were bound to get an entry eventually.

And while there are so many Traveler ships we can go with, the ongoing "Warrior's Spirit" event prompts us to highlight the Traveler x Ayaka ship.

While it isn't directly mentioned, there is always at least one character per region that is set up to be a love interest for the Traveler. In the case of Inazuma, it was Kamisato Ayaka.

The Traveler means much to Ayaka, who sees them as their first real friend, one whose friendship she earned of her own accord and not her status as highborn daughter of the Kamisato Clan.

In her Story Quest, the Traveler also helped Ayaka discover an all-new side to her late mother's personality and enjoy her first festival as a regular attendee, relatively speaking.

While she often acts dignified, Ayaka is not afraid to show her affection towards the Traveler, even if she doesn't say it directly. At the end of her Story Quest, she even performs a special dance for them (with wet socks on!).

But Ayaka was at her most aggressive in the Warrior's Spirit event, where she invited the Traveler for some sparring sessions and playfully told them, "Make sure you take good care of your sword. If I ever manage to steal it one day, your life will also be in my hands."

Say what you will about Ayaka, but out of all the other characters the Traveler is being shipped with, she's one of the few actively trying to make things happen.

Honourable mention: Vlad and Nadia

While our list was full of ships between playable characters, there are some sweet NPC pairings in the game for us to swoon over too. Out of all of them, Vlad and Nadia's pairing is arguably the best.

The two are members of the Fatui working as guards for the Northland Bank, with Vlad working the daytime shift while Nadia covers the nighttime shift.

Their relationship blossomed when Nadia accidentally left a letter for her brother at the bank while changing shifts. Vlad, mistaking it as a letter written for him, left a response. The two became pen pals as a result, writing letters for the other to read during their shifts.

Both Vlad and Nadia end up very homesick during their time in Liyue, with the former requesting a transfer back to Snezhnaya while the latter waited by the harbour every day for a boat carrying letters from her family.

Once they became pen pals, they would find comfort in each other's letters, though they were unable to meet as they had different shifts.

Vlad and Nadia would finally meet during the first-ever Lantern Rite Festival in version 1.3, and players have been looking forward to seeing them together in every iteration of the event since.

In this year's Lantern Rite, the pair attended the music festival and had a great time together, with Nadia even curtly saying it was a great experience because of the person she came with.

We can't wait until the next Lantern Rite to see how Vlad and Nadia's relationship will bloom!
