A whole lifetime of service crammed into a two-minute trailer. That’s what you’ll find in our first glimpse at The Crown season 6 part two.

At the end of The Crown season six part one, things came to a head following the tragic death of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed in Paris and the ramifications were immediately felt by those in Buckingham Palace.

A few years will have passed when we catch up with the royals in part two, but the wounds caused by this catastrophic event remain raw. Judging by Netflix’s newly released trailer, the show’s remaining four episodes will focus primarily on Prince William as the weight of the responsibility on his shoulders starts to sink in.

Battling both fame and royal commitments along with a growing need for a personal life as a young adult, we’ll see him at St. Andrews University where he starts a relationship with a young Kate Middleton.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth is forced to reflect on her life of service when her sister, Princess Margaret suffers a stroke and is taken ill.

This, combined with the death of her mother, a swiftly approaching Golden Jubilee, Prince Charles’ impending marriage to Camilla and a changing political landscape puts the Queen in a situation where she’s forced to reassess what her life’s duty has achieved — and what the future might hold.

Creator Peter Morgan previously said we shouldn't expect the series to move too much further forward than season five, telling Deadline: “As we started to discuss the storylines for season five, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons.

“To be clear, season six will not bring us any closer to present-day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”

The Crown is known for changing up its cast every two seasons, so the new cast who entered the show in season five return to close the drama with season six.

Imelda Staunton stars as Queen Elizabeth II alongside Jonathan Pryce as husband Prince Philip. Staunton was on set filming season six on the day of the Queen's death, 8 September 2022.

Dominic West continues to play Prince Charles while Elizabeth Debicki played the late Princess Diana.

Olivia Williams is back as Camilla Parker Bowles, but with the final episode of season five featuring Labour's win at the 1997 general election, Jonny Lee Miller is out as John Major and Bertie Carvel joins as new prime minister Tony Blair.

Lesley Manville also returns as Princess Margaret. Meanwhile, Meg Bellamy makes her acting debut as Kate Middleton after she bagged the role by filming her own audition following a social media call-out.

Ed McVey, 21, and 16-year-old Rufus Kampa play Prince William at different ages.

Meanwhile, Welsh teenager Fflyn Edwards plays as a young Prince Harry. The 14-year-old from Carmarthenshire has also appeared in CBBC's Snow Spider and 1899 and is also due to appear in the next season of Shadow and Bone.

Part one of The Crown season six is on Netflix now, with part two arriving on Thursday 14 December. The Crown seasons one to five are currently streaming on the same platform.
