The Magnificent Seven Remake Trailer Rides In

The first trailer for the upcoming remake of ‘The Magnificent Seven’ has been released by Sony Pictures. Watch it above for a large dose of hats, horses, and handsome men.

Out go Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson et al (five points to your pub quiz team if you can name the rest) and in come Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Martin Sensmeier as the seven gunslingers drafted in to protect the Western outpost.

The film reunites Washington and Hawke with their ‘Training Day’ director Antoine Fuqua, while drafting in the hotter-than-hot-right-now Chris Pratt presumably to draw in the younger crowds.

You have to admit, Pratt does look good in a stetson.

Written by ‘True Detective’ creator Nic Pizzolatto, the film promises to offer a fresh twist on the classic 1960 Western, which itself was a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s seminal samurai flick ‘The Seven Samurai’, albeit with a - dare we say it? - slightly less starry line up.

Here’s the official synopsis: Director Antoine Fuqua brings his modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven. With the sleepy town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate towns people employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.

‘The Magnificent Seven’ is coming to cinemas on 23 September 2016.
