Wes Anderson has revealed details of his new movie The French Dispatch, which, like most of the director’s previous work, boasts an incredible cast.

Fox Searchlight’s official synopsis for The French Dispatch reads, “The film is a love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th Century French city and brings to life a collection of stories published in The French Dispatch magazine.”

“The film’s cast includes Benicio Del Toro, Frances McDormand, Jeffrey Wright, Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet, Léa Seydoux, Tilda Swinton, Mathieu Amalric, Lyna Khoudri, Stephen Park, Owen Wilson, Lois Smith, and Bill Murray.”

Unsurprisingly, Fox Searchlight Pictures chairmen Steve Gilula and Nancy Utley also eulogised over Anderson and his upcoming work, remarking, “We are excited to dive back into the unmistakable and entirely original world of Wes Anderson.”

Director, screenwriter and producer Wes Anderson and cast members Jason Schwartzman, Kunichi Nomura, Bryan Cranston, Koyu Rankin, Greta Gerwig, Liev Schreiber, Bill Murray, Bob Balaban, Jeff Goldblum,Tilda Swinton, Jeremy Dawson, Mari Nakutsi, Roman Kopola, Yojiro Noda, Akira Takayama and Steven Rales pose during a photocall to promote the movie Isle of Dogs at the 68th Berlinale International Film Festival in Berlin, Germany, February 15, 2018. “Our collaborations with Wes in the past have been exceptional, and we’re thrilled to be back working with him and the Indian Paintbrush team on The French Dispatch.”

Back in April, Anderson gave the French magazine Charente Libre, via Variety, a little more insight on the film, explaining, “The story is not easy to explain. [It’s about an] American journalist based in France [who] creates his magazine.”

“It is more a portrait of this man, of this journalist who fights to write what he wants to write. It’s not a movie about freedom of the press, but when you talk about reporters you also talk about what’s going on in the real world.”

The French Dispatch will premiere in 2020, probably at one of the film festivals in August or September, as the studio will look to position it for an awards season push.
